Black  dal /lentils are black-brown, which is why it is called black lentils. This lentil is highly beneficial for the heart, cholesterol levels, and many other organs.

1- Control blood sugar – Consumption of whole dal / lentils can be beneficial in diabetes. It controls blood sugar. This lentil contains fiber and complex carbohydrates which get absorbed slowly in the blood. This prevents sudden fluctuations in the blood glucose level which prevents sugar problems and keeps it under control.

Ingredients for making lentils

Ingredients for making lentils

1 1/2 cups black  dal / lentils

1 large tomato finely chopped

1 large onion finely chopped

1 tablespoon grated ginger, garlic

2-3 green chillies finely chopped Grated

1/4 teaspoon, (according to taste) red chilli powder

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

Two whole Kashmiri red chilies

1/4 teaspoon asafoetida

1/2 teaspoon dry mango powder

1/2 teaspoon garam masala

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 tablespoon Kasuri methi

2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander

3 cups water or as per requirement

Salt as per taste

2 tablespoons Desi ghee/oil

As per your requirement

6,7 pieces of ginger cut in julienne (for decoration)

One teaspoon of lemon juice (optional)

Tadka – 1 tablespoon oil

One tablespoon finely chopped garlic

Two to three green chillies finely chopped

Half teaspoon Kashmiri red chilly powder.

Method of making black lentils -

Method of making black lentils –

1- To make black dal/ lentils, first of all, soak the lentils for at least 4 to 5 hours so that the lentils become soft

2- After this, the lentils/ dal should be soaked Wash the lentils thoroughly with water and soak them in clean water for some time, and then heat oil in a clean cooker

3- After heating the oil, add cumin seeds. As soon as the cumin seeds start turning red in the oil, at this time keep asafoetida, finely chopped onion in the oil for light sauté and keep stirring the onion in between

4- When the onion turns light pink, then add grated ginger-garlic and green chili paste to it

5- When the ginger-garlic is cooked well with the onion, then add tomatoes cut into small pieces and soften it well

6- In this situation, mix all the dry spices like turmeric, red chili powder, salt, asafoetida, and lentils and mix them well. In this situation, if you want, you can also add one to two spoons of water and mix them together to form a paste

7- Now add the soaked dal/lentils to this masala and fry the lentils and spices well. So that all the spices and lentils mix together and become one

8- After mixing it well, add as much as you need to this dal and after this, after giving it at least 3 to 4 whistles properly, keep it on medium flame and cook it for 5 to 7 minutes

8- After this, open the pressure cooker and check whether the dal/ lentils are cooked completely or not, after cooking the lentils, take them out in a serving bowl pour two spoons of ghee over it, and mix the lentils well

9- Garnish the  dal/lentils by adding garam masala powder, dry mango powder, chopped coriander, finely chopped ginger, lemon slices and enjoy it by serving with rice

10- For tempering, heat oil and ghee well in a small pan and add finely chopped garlic to it

Add green chilies and when it turns red properly, then while turning off the gas, add Kashmiri red chili powder on top and pour the seasoning prepared in this way on top of the dal.

Another method of making black masoor dal-

1- To make black masoor dal, first of all, add salt and water as per requirement in the dal and give it at least three to four whistles in a pressure cooker and keep it in the middle for 4 to 5 minutes and boil the dal and keep it aside.

2- Now put oil or ghee in a pan and fry cumin seeds, onion, tomato, and all the spices in it in the way mentioned above so that the spices come together. When the spices become soft, add this boiled dal in it and mix it well.

Tips-

1- Whenever you make black masoor dal, it should be soaked for at least 3 to 4 hours, this makes the dal swell well and also tastes very good.

2- If the dal takes time to melt due to water as per the place while boiling, then you can add a little water. Adding water too often reduces the taste of the lentils
